Week One

We've been here just over a week and it has felt full. Overwhelming at times with minutia but also like we are settling in and grounding in our new space. In the last week we have: gone swimming at the school pool a couple times and toured the school to get a sense of it, met with our realtor many times to have small fixes on our house done (mostly leaky plumbing but also some air conditioning), made it to 3!! different malls (one of which is the 7th largest mall in the world) which also included eating some delicious Indian food and the boys enjoying a trampoline/ninja zone adventure. We have biked to and from school and also to and from the closest grocery and feel like that can be a daily routine (sweaty but doable).

We have made numerous forays around the golf course and neighborhood, our current evening routine involves a walk to MyNews (like a 7-11) for an ice cream and then a wander through the neighborhood to find fancy cars; we have all seen more Lamborghinis in the last week than in all of the previous weeks of our lives. The adults have done a variety of different banking and internet things (very boring for the boys but also necessary and not going as seamlessly as we want) as well as met with a man about a car. We have downloaded more apps for things like food & cars (Grab) and money (Wise) than ever before and are learning all of the intricacies of those.

We have also started connecting with others-the school set up a meeting for bank purposes where we met many of the new staff and then we also had a lunch together. The boys are connecting with other kids in the neighborhood and are experiencing similar freedoms to what we had in Bellingham in terms of being able to run over to a friends' house. More connections to come as the clubhouse (lol) has its official opening on Friday afternoon and next week another new teacher is celebrating a birthday and invited everyone to join. As we settle in we are also looking forward to venturing further afield so next week will include taking the metro downtown and explorations outside of our immediate space.

  1. Sooo good to read of your settling in and modest adventures in your neighborhood. Lots more to come, it's early days and your horizons are wide. Big hugs to all four of you!

  2. Amazing how you humans are adapting to a completely new environment. I'm sure the overwhelm has you bug-eyed. And, I can easily imagine the grumbling protests and longing for what's familiar. Thanks god you have each other to cling onto as the growing pains arise. Making your very own special history is not easy :/ Good that you're taking note of these times. You'll no doubt be amazed by how much you've grown at this time next year!
